<p>Winners of both regional and national best casual dining at the 2025 Muddy Awards, <a href="https://www.nativeburger.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Native Burger</a> in Bodmin is a real gem. A banging burger bar run by husband and wife team Luke and Georgie, Bodmin is the second of their branches. Opened in 2024, it followed the success of the OG in Launceston. Plus they also have a pop-up burger trailer ‘Native Trucker’ at Trevear Farm near Padstow during the summer.</p>



<p>As for the &#8216;where&#8217;, Native Burger is set back off Bodmin&#8217;s main drag in The Piazza, which means there is cute little burger / drinks garden out front. Native Burger Bodmin is opposite the Hole in the Wall pub, and within an easy walk of the town centre, park and main goings-on. Handily for those who prefer their burgers to take-away, it is also near car parking.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Native Burger&#8217;s restaurant spaces are inviting, comfortable, with branding and signage just right for Instagram. Inside embraces a diner-esque aesthetic, with metal chairs and wooden tables, and there&#8217;s a proper buzzy atmosphere. Staff are super friendly and service is speedy. Book ahead for the inside tables; outside are for walk-ups, and there&#8217;s also a takeaway option too.</p>

<p>Luke and Georgie are justifiably proud of their local partnerships used to create their banging burger menu. From a special blend for their patties from local butcher legends Philip Warren Butchers, to bespoke buns by Baker Tom, choosing produce that supports the local economy has been front of mind. Sauces and sides are handmade. Drinks include frozen margs and daiquiris made with Colwith Farm Distillery spirits, beers are local, and the shakes are made using Bodmin-based Kellys Ice cream.</p>



<p>Luke is a font of food knowledge, with buckets of experience shining through in the thoughtfully created menu; each flavour is intentionally placed, and each burger has its own identity and fan base. </p>

<p>We ordered a round of burgers, and a selection of sides, plus You Melt fries (loaded with cheese). Quality is high – from the simple Plain Jane (a bargain £8 and isn&#8217;t really plain at all!) through to the brisket laden Workout burger (a very reasonable £15). Allergies and preferences are well catered for, with veggie and gluten free options across the menu. My kids reckoned they were the best onion rings that they&#8217;ve tried, and wolfed the thunder and lightening sundae so fast I am not sure I got more than a taste. All in all, thumbs up from everyone round the table!</p>

<p>Bodmin is one of those Cornish towns that very often doesn&#8217;t get a mention as it is a &#8216;real&#8217; town, where people live and work full time, rather than a coastal honeypot. Which is why it is perfect for a burger joint. </p>



<p>Easily accessible from the main Cornish A30, and with Bodmin Moor very nearby, there is loads to do. Historic former prison, built in 1779, <a href="https://www.bodminjail.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bodmin Jail</a> is now a gruesome attraction. <a href="https://bodminkeep.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bodmin Keep</a>, Cornwall&#8217;s Army Museum is temporarily closed, but keep an eye out for their re-opening. Cornwall&#8217;s biggest Steam Railway is also here &#8211; <a href="https://bodminrailway.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bodmin Railway</a>, nostalgically steaming out from Bodmin General and heading towards Bodmin Parkway on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Indie science museum <a href="https://www.discovering42.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Discovering42</a> is in Priory Park, and every Sunday at 9am Bodmin hosts a <a href="https://www.parkrun.org.uk/bodmin-juniors/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Junior parkrun</a>.</p>



<p>Just outside the town itself is <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/cornwall/lanhydrock" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lanhydrock</a> (National Trust), a magnificent Victorian house and gardens, plus estate, and Respryn, as well as Restormel Castle (English Heritage). All perfect for walking in miles of ancient woodlands. Also nearby is Muddy Award winning Family Experience, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/dreadlockescape" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dreadlock Escape Rooms</a>, and there is also <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BodminWay/">The Bodmin Way</a> to walk, a longer circular which takes in five churches in the Bodmin area.</p>



<p>Up on the moor are more walks, wild ponies and acres of wild moorland and temperate rainforest. Try walking up to Roughtor or Brown Willy for the far reaching views, or head to Colliford Lake for Cornwall&#8217;s largest inland waterway. On the banks is <a href="https://goldentree.org.uk/kerdroya/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kerdroya</a>, a labyrinth created from a single winding path is a celebration of Cornwall’s ancient craft of stone hedging.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p>Well constructed burgers are always a winner, and Native Burger is a real feel-good eat. Service is fab and the whole experience welcoming – and affordable, with burgers starting at just £8. </p>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Laid-back and fun with music and neon, Native Burger is a great place for a casual family dinner with kids / teens, but also fun for a big table with mates, a date, or just a solo ‘me’ dinner.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> The clues in the name, so if you&#8217;re not after a burger, other places locally might suit better. There&#8217;s lots of chicken, loaded fries, and sides, so you&#8217;ll be set if one of your party is fussy, but the burger is the main event here.</p>
