The Falmouth Hotel, Falmouth
Standing grandly on the seafront overlooking Castle Beach, The Falmouth Hotel is a timeless testament to Cornwall’s rich history and seaside allure.
For the first time in 20 years, the beautiful Victorian building, once known as The Grand Dame of Falmouth is back again under local ownership, having been recently acquired by The Cornwall Hotel Collection (who also manage The Alverton and The Greenbank).
Standing grandly on the picturesque seafront overlooking Castle Beach, The Falmouth Hotel is a timeless testament to Cornwall’s rich history and seaside allure. Currently the hotel has 71 rooms plus restaurant, pool, gym and spa, with the experienced team making big plans to restore the hotel to former glory.
The Falmouth Hotel first opened in 1865 when Isambard Kingdom Brunel expanded the Great Western Railway into Cornwall, bringing Victorian seaside glamour to Falmouth. The first known picture letter by Beatrix Potter was written to Noel Moore when he was four years old when Potter was staying at the Falmouth Hotel in 1892, and in the intervening years the hotel has played host to royalty, military supremos, famous authors, film and pop stars, sporting icons plus even a Prime Minister or two.
Castle Beach is the most easterly of Falmouth’s beaches, a sand and shingle beach popular with families for the rockpools at low tide. The beach and hotel have views across Falmouth Bay to Pendennis Castle, which was built for Henry VIII. Easily accessed from the railway station, it is also only a short walk to the shops, restaurants and galleries of the main town.
