The Rising Sun has sat on Mitchell Hill, a medieval route into the city of Truro, for the past 200 years. A labour of love from landlords Katie and Tom Hannon, who have spent the past nine years carefully and considerately breathing new life into this beautiful pub, retaining the rural village atmosphere and authentic pub environment, where everyone is welcome, from families to dogs, whilst upgrading everything from the food to the cutlery. Decor is the stylish side of traditional and is particularly cosy coming into autumn and winter.

Pop-in for a pint by the fire, make it a date or a family catch-up with drinks in the bar, a meal in the restaurant, or enjoy an after-work drink (or three) in the courtyard garden round the chimnea for the popular ‘Fizz Friday’ where you can try their favourite sparkling wine of the week, or enjoy a craft beer or gin.

Lunchtime is all about pub classics, with ploughmans, salads and fish & chips sitting alongside fish and steak. In the evenings, you’ll find elegant, elevated dining that wouldn’t be out of place in a fine-dining restaurant cooked beautifully and lovingly by chef Patron Tom; on Sundays, delicious roasts, all accompanied by craft and local beers and an unusual and considered wine list. Look out for the ‘secret cellar’ list where you’ll find some real hidden gems, thoughtfully chosen by Tom and Katie.
