<p>Not quite the celeb gossip but perhaps rather more international, Spaceport Cornwall have welcomed Virgin Orbit&#8217;s Boeing 747 <em>Cosmic Girl </em>to Newquay this week (CGI imagined version above). The modified jet arrived from the US in preparation for the UK&#8217;s first ever space launch, in which a 31-tonne rocket will be carried up to space to launch satellites. </p>

<p>Piloted by a British RAF pilot, Squadron Leader Matthew &#8216;Stanny&#8217; Stannard, the plane will carry the 20m rocket <em>Launcher One (above) </em>out over the ocean before releasing the rocket onwards to space and circling back round to land at the airport in Newquay. This so-called horizontal launch, which has been in the planning for more than eight years, should take place in November. <p class="has-black-color has-text-color">Rather confirming what we at Muddy Cornwall already know, the AA&#8217;s new <strong><em>Restaurant Guide 2023</em></strong> reckons that Cornwall is one of the top UK destinations for foodies outside London, with 42 restaurants featured in the new guide out this week. Entries include&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://outlaws.co.uk/restaurants/new-road/" target="_blank">Outlaw&#8217;s New Road</a>&nbsp;at Port Isaac (above),&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.newyardrestaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank">New Yard Restaurant</a>&nbsp;in Helston and&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://tresanton.com/" target="_blank">Hotel Tresanton</a>&nbsp;in St Mawes, while&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.thebayhotel.co.uk/food-drink" target="_blank">Hevva</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.oldsailloftlooe.co/" target="_blank">The Old Sail Loft Restaurant</a>&nbsp;make their debut as new additions to this year.</p>

<p>We also hear that Muddy Award winning deli, Sabzi, have a new series of supper clubs. Kate started her business by hosting Iranian supper clubs in her home, and her first Iranian night at Sabzi sold out almost instantly. Held at the Falmouth store (above) on the first and second Fridays of every month, featuring generous communal feasts in their trademark Middle Eastern style, bookings are currently being taken for November 4 by popping into either store or emailing <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="mailto:hello@sabzideli.co.uk" target="_blank">hello@sabzideli.co.uk</a>.  Plus both stores are now selling seasonal ready meals, freezer safe in fully compostable, oven safe packaging. </p>

<p>Ollie Wyatt (above), previously Sous Chef at Michael Caines’ The Cove, is the newly named Head Chef at <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/the-alverton-hotel-truro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Alverton in Truro</a>. Want to taste his food? Of course you do! Don&#8217;t miss the ‘Taste of Truro’ Game Evening on 24 November (tickets £60 per person, and add a wine flight carefully crafted by expert sommelier Yohann Thuillier for £25 per head). </p>



<p>If guest chef spots are more your thing, the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://enodoc-hotel.co.uk/offers/chef-series-2022/" target="_blank">Guest Chef series</a> is back at St Enodoc Hotel in Rock in November. First up, on 12 Nov, is Tom Booton &#8211; head chef at The Grill at the Dorchester. Hot on his heels on 19 Nov is Meat Liquor, who started in a trailer and now have 12 restaurants across the country, and will be taking over the whole kitchen and restaurant to run a pop-up Meat Liquor for one night.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sad goodbyes</h2>



<p>It’s tough times out there, and this is your Muddy reminder to give a little love to your plucky local indies where you can! Sadly, we’re saying goodbye to Island Newquay, who close their doors for the final time this month, with 29 October their last day of trading. Mathilda and John are closing this much-loved Newquay coffee place which opened in Dec 2020 to focus on their main business, Swedish style roadside diner and café, Strong Adolfos in Hawksfield, on the A39 outside Wadebridge.</p>

According to Barrie Gibson of&nbsp;Muddy Award Finalists <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.foweyvalleycider.co.uk/" target="_blank">Fowey Valley Cider</a>&nbsp;in Lostwithiel, the crop is both the largest for several years and of excellent quality thanks to just the right amount of sun and rain, and the warm temperatures which extended throughout September. Don&#8217;t let them go to waste though &#8211; Fowey Valley Cider are offering to swap bottles of cider for bags of apples &#8211; &#8220;every 15kg of apples can be swapped for a bottle of our Castledore cider.”</p>
