<a href="https://www.watergatebay.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Watergate Bay Hotel</a>&nbsp;has announced a new executive head chef to lead all three of their restaurants. Chris Eden, pictured, will take the helm of Watergate Bay’s food offering from 1 October 2024, returning to make his mark on the Cornish food scene. Chris was the first Cornishman to win a Michelin star in Cornwall. First up will be a re-launch of the new Zacry’s menu for the autumn season &#8211; watch this space.

<a href="http://ardor/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ardor</a> in St Ives has&nbsp;announced it will be launching a Saturday Bottomless Brunch, available from 28 September onwards. The brunch offering will be available between 1200h and 1430h each Saturday, and will run alongside the existing menu and daily specials at Cornwall’s <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/review-ardor-st-ives-cornwall/">hottest new restaurant opening</a>.

It was congrats to the team at Rick Stein&#8217;s Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, pictured, who picked up the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DATgsIUNqRS/">Food Service Award</a> at this year&#8217;s AA Hospitality Awards. 



Also flying the flag for Cornwall was <a href="https://www.truro-penwith.ac.uk/penwith/senara-restaurant-penwith/">Senara –Truro &amp; Penwith College</a> and <a href="https://www.truro-penwith.ac.uk/truro_college_campus/spires-restaurant-cornwall/">Spires</a>, also at Truro &amp; Penwith College, both finalists in the College Restaurant of the Year. 



Senara took the top prize, with Dave Izzard, Associate Director Occupational Courses for Truro &amp; Penwith College commenting that “Winning this award is not just a triumph of hospitality excellence, but a beacon of inspiration for our learners. Competing at such a prestigious level has had a profound, meaningful impact on the students. For Senara to be a finalist 3 years running, winning 2 out of 3 years demonstrates our unwavering commitment to meet the evolving needs of Cornwall&#8217;s vibrant hospitality profession, providing our learners with all the skills, knowledge and behaviours to be successful in this vibrant industry.”



In the Boutique Hotelier Awards for 2024, Watergate Bay&#8217;s Wellbeing Team have been shortlisted for Team of the Year, and GAIA Skincare in the Best spa/amenities product category. The winners will be announced on 15 October.

The Great Cornish Food project have announced an all-new range of awards to celebrate Cornwall’s top standard bearers in food, drink, farming and fishing. The eight awards which include Fishing for the Future, Farming for the Future and Food for the Future, Raising the Bar, Growing People, Making a Mark, In It Together and Winner of Winners are <a href="https://greatcornishfood.co.uk/working-with-businesses/awards/">open for entries now</a> until 1 Nov 2024, with finalists announced 2 Dec 2024. Winners will be announced on 6 Feb 2025 at an awards evening at Nancarrow Farm.

Sadly due to rising costs, it was announced that the festival was cancelled, but the team at St Michaels has confirmed that a community event will be held to fill the void at the resort. The weekend long event will celebrate the famed local delicacy, as well as the Falmouth community and will mark the beginning of the oyster dredging season this autumn, from&nbsp;15 –17 November 2024.



St Michaels’ Oyster Weekend will incorporate live music, foodie demonstrations from&nbsp;<a></a>some of Cornwall’s best chefs including Jude Kereama, James Strawbridge, Hylton Espey and Rupert Cooper, a street-food style gourmet offering and the chance to meet local oystermen and learn about their craft. A standout event during the revelry will be an oyster shucking competition and the event at St Michaels Resort will be the perfect opportunity to welcome friends from far and wide to Falmouth. Entry will be free until 6pm, and thereafter tickets can be purchased on the door or in advance for a £2 contribution to a local, Cornish charity.



On Friday, the Cornish singer, songwriter and musician, Will Keating, will take to the stage joined by children from the local primary school, followed by a set by the 10-13 piece soul band, Soul Sensations. Saturday’s acts will start with a performance by the community-loved Culdrose Military Wives Choir, with the evening headliner still to be confirmed. Sunday’s closing act will be local legends the Oggymen.

New date! The Great Coast-to-Coast Charity Dinner will now take place for the first time on 27 February 2025 at The Alverton, a luxury hotel hidden in the heart of the city of Truro, to celebrate Cornish food and drink with Hospitality Action, a very special charity at the centre of it all. With a mission to support and assist all who work, or have worked, within the hospitality industry in the UK, many of whom have fallen on hard times – be it financial, physical or mental – <a href="https://www.hospitalityaction.org.uk/about-us/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hospitality Action</a> is a helping hand when help is needed.



In a true celebration of everything Cornwall’s coastline has to offer, some of the county’s leading chefs will be taking over, including many stars of BBC Two’s Great British Menu – Kota and Kota Kai’s Jude Kereama,&nbsp;The Sardine Factory’s Ben Palmer, St Enodoc’s Guy Owen, 2018’s South West Chef of the Year Tim Kendall,&nbsp;and The Alverton’s very own Executive Chef Nick Hodges.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-new-openings">NEW OPENINGS</h2>



In Padstow, at the <a href="https://www.harbourhotels.co.uk/">Harbour Hotel</a>, chef Alex Aitken opens his first Jetty restaurant in Cornwall. He is a renowned chef on the south coast, having run restaurants for over 30 years. He previously held a Michelin Star at his first restaurant Le Poussin. He started The Jetty restaurants in Dorset at Harbour Hotel Christchurch.



Craftworks have announced a new burger bar for Wadebridge &#8211; setting up in their old venue near the entrance to the Padstow part of the Camel Trail, BackYard Burgers is offering burgers, dirty fries and beers by Harbour, available to eat in or for delivery.
