<a href="https://www.hookedontherocksfalmouth.com/">Hooked on the Rocks</a> at Swanpool, Falmouth, is the latest venture from Tamara Costin and William Speed, the duo behind Flushing&#8217;s <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/harbour-house-flushing/">Harbour House</a>. They will now work closely with Hooked’s Head Chef Jack Frame and General Manager Katie Hemmings to continue to build the success of the iconic seaside restaurant.



Hooked on the Rocks is built into the cliffside that overlooks the picturesque Swanpool Beach and nature reserve, on the outskirts of Falmouth.&nbsp; The menu centres around local, sustainably sourced seafood and features crab and lobster caught just eight miles down the coast, Falmouth Bay scallops, and daily fish specials from Newlyn market.

We&#8217;ve <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/restaurants/small-plate-seafood-restaurants-cornwall/">said it before</a>, but mark our words, <a href="https://www.floranewyard.co.uk/">Flora</a> at New Yard, Trelowarren is one to watch on the Cornwall foodie scene; no-one does casual so precisely as Tim and Louise Rødkjaer Spedding, who have been gradually building up their offering at Trelowarren on the Lizard with the café opening first, with glorious Danish baked goods, bread, and pizzas, as well as salads from their own walled garden. Then came Sunday lunches in the adjourning restaurant space, and now the excellent news that the full restaurant will be open weekend evenings. They also received a listing in the <a href="https://www.thegoodfoodguide.co.uk/restaurant/flora/id/50332">Best Food Guide</a> for Flora Café this month too. 



Fun fact, the estate is opposite Goonhilly Earth Station which although no longer open to the public, once the largest satellite earth station in the world, from where the Apollo 11&nbsp;Moon landing in 1969 was broadcast. Keep an eye on the horizon for the enormous dishes, some still in use, and which inspired St Ives sculptor <a href="https://hepworthwakefield.org/our-art-artists/collections/the-hepworth-family-gift/three-hemispheres/">Barbara Hepworth</a> in aspects of her work in the late 1960s. The estate also sits on the south bank of the river Helford, notably referred to in Daphne du Maurier’s novel Frenchman’s Creek and latterly painted by Cornish artist Kurt Jackson. Holiday cottages are available on the estate to make a weekend of your visit.

Over in Padstow, Newquay based pasta specialist chef Adam Banks (previously head chef at Fifteen Cornwall, latterly Verbena) will be taking over the space at Little Prawn on Duke street from 25 October for a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DAv-QVvoqpT/?img_index=1">pasta pop-up</a>. Bookings are now open for our Friday dinner, Saturday lunch &amp; dinner, Sunday lunch (set menu only) &amp; Monday dinner. Expect (obvs) plates of pasta combined with locally sourced ingredients &amp; natural wines.



In Truro, look out for new restaurant Petty Fours on Bridge Street. Previously at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pettyfoursrestaurant">Carwinion House</a>, Falmouth. Led by chef Alfred Petty, <a href="https://www.pettyfours.co.uk/">Petty Fours</a> will offer brunch and afternoon tea and an evening fine dining tasting menu.

Cornwall was well represented among the winners at the recent south-west Food Lifestyle Awards 2024, celebrated at Nancarrow Farm.



Adam Handling, The Ugly Butterfly, Carbis Bay was awarded Chef of the Year&nbsp;– sponsored by Knightor Winery. Cool place to stay&nbsp;– sponsored by Bramley was Star &amp; Garter, Falmouth, Yallah Coffee won Drink Brand of the Year and St. Ewe (eggs) won Food Brand of the Year&nbsp;&nbsp;– both sponsored by Indy Coffee Guide.

Three of Cornwall&#8217;s hotels were recognised last week when The MICHELIN Guide introduced a new appraisal system for hotels called&nbsp;<a href="https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/article/travel/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-michelin-key-for-hotels-gbi" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Michelin Key</a>. Just as the Michelin Star recognises restaurants for outstanding cooking, the Michelin Key recognises hotels for outstanding stays.



<a href="https://idlerocks.com/">The Idle Rocks</a>, St Mawes, neighbour <a href="https://thepolizzicollection.com/hotel-tresanton">Hotel Tresanton</a>, also in St. Mawes and <a href="https://www.artistresidence.co.uk/cornwall">Artist Residence Cornwall</a>, Penzance were all recognised as One Key stays, with many others in the south-west also receiving plaudits &#8212; <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/michelin-key-hotels-cornwall-devon-south-west/">check out the full list here</a>.



The shortlist for the British Travel Awards has been announced with Away Resorts (<a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/retallack-resort-spa/">Retallack</a>, and <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/st-ives-bay-beach-resort-hayle-cornwall/">St Ives Bay</a>) in the Best Company for UK Parks &amp; Lodges Holidays category, and <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/beach-retreats-cornwall/">Beach Retreats</a> in the Best Company for UK Holiday Home Rentals category. The completion of vital roof restoration works at the Grade II Listed Tolgus Mill, the last tin streaming mill in Europe &#8211; at <a href="https://www.cornwall-gold.com/">Cornwall Gold</a> has been announced. Completely free to enter, Cornwall Gold offers visitors the opportunity to experience their interactive Tolgus Mill exhibition as well as the mill itself. They process and smelt tin on-site, which is then added to their Tolgus jewellery collection sold onsite as well as online. The profits from the Tolgus jewellery goes back into supporting their restoration efforts and ongoing maintenance of the Tolgus Mill.

It’s Sharp’s Brewing Co’s 30th&nbsp;birthday year this year and it is also Newquay-based Carve Magazine’s 30th&nbsp;anniversary too.&nbsp; It’s Newquay Boardriders’ 55th&nbsp;year and the 25th&nbsp;for the team at Lusty Glaze Beach.&nbsp; So, the four organisations have come together to create an epic joint celebration for the 140 years of milestone success in the Cornish surfing world on Saturday 12&nbsp;October 2024 with a party at Lusty Glaze.

It&#8217;s the last year in action for <a href="https://shipwreckcharlestown.co.uk/events/tunnel-of-lights-2024-last-christmas/">The Shipwreck Museum&#8217;s delightful and festive The Tunnel of Lights</a>, which has also just been announced as a finalist in the Tourism Event / Festival of the Year category in this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards. The attraction had already secured a coveted Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for 2024. The theme will be Wham&#8217;s Last Christmas &#8211; Inspired by visitors&#8217; favourite moments from past events, they’ll be recreating some classic moments combined with plenty of new, enchanting scenes and surprises to be discovered.
