<a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/cornwall-museum-art-gallery-truro/">Cornwall Museum &amp; Art Gallery</a>, formerly the Royal Cornwall Museum, in Truro, is set to re-open on 1 March 2025. Experience Cornwall through the art, objects and artefacts that tell the story of our past: it is the definitive destination for Cornish art, artefacts, history, nature and culture. Alongside the large number of works from the permanent collection going on display in March there will be a busy programme of art exhibitions, beginning with Kurt Jackson’s Biodiversity and continuing with Exploring Time: A Painter’s Perspective by artist and environmentalist, Tony Foster.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-foodie-news">FOODIE NEWS</h2>



The month kicked off with the new Michelin Stars 2025 announced on 10 February in Glasgow. While Cornwall wasn&#8217;t awarded any new stars, all the previous stars were retained, and two new Bibs were announced, Argoe, and North Street Kitchen. All the details on <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/local-michelin-star-winners-cornwall/">Cornwall&#8217;s Michelin success here</a> &#8211; Cornwall now has 38 listings in the guide (although that is soon to be 37, see sad goodbyes below).

Cornwall also had two listings in the <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/top-gastropubs-cornwall/">top 100 gastropubs</a>, with The Mariners in Rock coming in at number five, and <a href="http://www.gurnardshead.co.uk/">The Gurnard&#8217;s Head</a> near Zennor coming in at a pleasing 81 &#8211; it is a real Muddy favourite destination pub on the West Penwith peninsula, and my updated review will be here shortly.



<a href="https://driftwoodspars.co.uk/">The Driftwood Spars</a> in St Agnes are celrbrating being awarded an AA Rosette &#8211; congrats to head chef Tom, and team.



Lastly, congrats to Muddy Award winning bar, <a href="https://www.tom-thumb.co.uk/">Tom Thumb</a> in Newquay, shortlisted for sustainable bar of the year in the top 50 cocktail bars.

On the Great British Menu series 20, Joe Fallowfield flew the Cornish flag on the southwest episodes. Sadly his time was short lived, but we do hear good things about his own restaurant, <a href="https://www.houselbay.com/fallowfields">Fallowfields</a>, down on the Lizard at Housel Bay. 



Cornish chef <a href="https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/467048/home-shores-by-scott-emily/9781784887834">Emily Scott&#8217;s new cookery book, Home Shores</a> is available to preorder ahead of release on 15 May (keep your eyes peeled, we will have a copy to give away too!) &#8211; featuring 100 simple fish recipes to cook at home, the book is full of hints, tips and tried and tested techniques from Emily to inspire.



In other news, Gorse bakery at Lanteague near-ish to Newquay has been named one of the best in the country by BritishBaker. 



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-new-restaurant-openings-in-cornwall">NEW RESTAURANT OPENINGS IN CORNWALL</h3>



Hooked on the Rocks in Falmouth has re-opened as <a href="https://beachhousefalmouth.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Beach House</a> after a refurb with new owners Tamara Costin and William Speed working with Hooked on the Rock&#8217;s previous chef Jack Frame and General Manager Katie Hemmings.

And not a new opening as such, but a new look and new menus to celebrate 20 years, <a href="https://kotarestaurant.co.uk/">Kota</a> in Porthleven with ched patron Jude Kereama, above. The revamped bar and restaurant space has been designed to enable people to visit, dine and enjoy a few pinxos with paired wines. Kota has become renowned for its creative tasting menus and this will still be available in the form of a chefs menu &#8211; a six course tasting menu designed by Kota’s head chef, Ross Sloan, priced at £75.



Also in Porthleven, <a href="https://www.cantinaporthleven.com/">Cantina</a> has launched a brand new Around the World style menu featuring dishes from their four favourite foodie regions &#8211; Asia, Latin America, Europe and East Coast America.

Over in <a href="https://stablepizza.com/padstow/">Padstow, Stables</a> has opened a new branch serving sourdough pizzas and craft beers and ciders. The new 120-seated restaurant will be the first of their venues to serve an exclusive new menu &#8211; find them on the harbour side, open seven days a week (finally somewhere to eat on a Monday night!) from 9am to 10pm.

Fresh from his residency at The Gate in Looe, chef <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/life/people/chef-charlie-walters-narla-fowey-cornwall/">Charlie Walters</a> is poised to open the doors on his new place, <a href="https://www.narlarestaurant.co.uk/">Narla</a>, in Fowey, opening at 19 Fore Street (where Appleton&#8217;s used to be). Bookings are now open from 20 March.



Meanwhile in Perranporth, everyone&#8217;s favourite beach bar, The Watering Hole, has taken on the old Perranporth Youth Hotel, turning it into a new venue to be known as Droskyn Lookout. The plan is to retain affordable accommodation, with a wellness hub and café. 



In Newquay, The Clover Club have teased a new takeaway hatch at the as-yet-unnamed beach, from 1 April. They celebrate one year of their restaurant at Bank Street.



Coming soon to Wadebridge &#8211; a new cheese shop, from the people behind Padstow Cheese (think Cornish Jack if you know your Cornish cheeseboards). More soon!

Despite being recognised with a <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/foodie-news-cornwall-playing-nice/">Michelin listing for Cornwall</a> in December 2024, Joe Lippman and Jasmine Caldwell, better known as DuchyGrub, have called it a day. Their tiny place on a campsite near Harlyn was a favourite.
