<p>It was opening weekend at <a href="https://www.tartanfoxpub.co.uk/">The Tartan Fox</a>, at Summercourt near Newquay, where the Adam Handling restaurant group has <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/superflashy-newsflash-cornwall-foodie-news-may-2024/">transformed the old Foxes Revenge</a>, updating the pub’s interiors to feature earthy tones and natural materials including stone and wood, taking inspiration from the 400-year-old Grade II listed building’s heritage, which sits on 30 acres of land. </p>

<p>The food continues Adam&#8217;s visionary approach to zero-waste, modern British food, underpinned by the philosophy that is consistent throughout each of his restaurants; &#8216;Sustainable, local luxury&#8217; &#8211; and the Sunday Roast was excellent, the puddings divine and the wine list as you&#8217;d expect, perfectly judged. One for your Cornish &#8216;to eat&#8217; list this summer for sure, and it&#8217;s still a pub to go for a drink; there is the massive beer garden. The snacks are pretty epic too, including bread and chicken butter and cheese donuts to mop up your pints (although I defy you not to end up ordering a meal, once you&#8217;ve started it&#8217;s hard to stop!).</p>

<p>Also on your foodie list should be the <a href="https://www.thekingfowey.co.uk/">King of Fowey</a>, and they&#8217;ve also now opened  The Oyster Shuck underneath the pub. Rejuvenating the interiors, and with a new fine dining ethos upstairs, The Oyster Shuck is for more casual seaside eating, with tables outside and inside &#8211; think lobster rolls, fish finger sandwiches and cold beers and wine. Little Prawn is in the old Barnaby&#8217;s building opposite PoTL, and  promises the freshest catches, punchy cocktails &#8211; including frozen margs &#8211; and top-notch wines.</p>

<p>Speaking of the Adam Handling group, the <a href="https://www.nationalrestaurantawards.co.uk/list/1-50">National Restaurant Awards</a> have been announced with two more Cornish restaurants <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/superflash-new-restaurants-cornwall/">joining Paul Ainsworth&#8217;s no6 on the list</a> &#8211; up 11 places at 22. Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling at Carbis Bay (above) is in at number 55, and Cornwall&#8217;s newest Michelin starred restaurant is at number 61. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s also congrats to <a href="https://www.thepetervilleinn.co.uk/">The Peterville Inn</a> in St Agnes who competed in the Pub of the Year category in the finals of this year’s Visit England Awards for Excellence. The title for ‘Pub of the Year’ marked the culmination of a year’s worth of achievements for the business which all began with the gold award at the Cornwall Tourism Awards followed by qualification at the South West level. Tom and <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/life/people/lara-trubshaw-the-peterville-inn-st-agnes-cornwall/">Lara Trubshaw</a> who run the pub with their General Manager Steven Gibbs attended the ceremony hosted by TV star Alex Polizzi alongside a slew of other businesses from the county but in the end were the only ones from Cornwall to collect the prestigious gold award.</p>

<p>In other foodie news, <a href="https://www.trurofarmers.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Truro Farmers Market</a> has come in at No.2 in a national survey of the best farmers markets, just being pipped to the top spot by Winchester Farmers Market in Hampshire. The list was <a href="https://www.feast-magazine.co.uk/press-release/these-are-the-best-farmers-markets-in-the-uk-to-explore-this-summer-according-to-food-experts-42003" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">put together by HelloFresh</a> in order to highlight the wealth of summer produce the UK enjoys; it was compiled using a variety of data insights, including frequency, how long the markets last, how many stalls can be found there, and online ratings from visitors.</p>

<p>Cornwall’s first aparthotel <a href="https://sea.space/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">SeaSpace</a> is set to welcome first guests from October 2024. Just above Porth beach, on the edge of Newquay, the new oceanside concept is a first of its kind – offering a new way to stay and play by the sea. Designed for coastal-loving travellers and like-minded locals, this is a place to gather. There will be 56 self-catered spaces (which sleep 2-6, all dog-friendly), there’s will be a host of activities and facilities on offer, including a new five-court padel tennis club &#8211; plus a café, deli, gym, swimming pools, fitness classes, water sports, children’s play areas and forest school workshops, plus a full programme of arts, music and foodie events to bring the community together.</p>
