<p>Opening on Fore Street in St Ives on 6 July, <a href="https://www.ardorstives.co.uk/">Ardor</a> is chef Dorian Janmaat’s first solo outpost. Previously the award-winning Executive Head Chef of The Idle Rocks Hotel in St Mawes, and before that at Le Manoir aux Quat&#8217;Saisons, Dorian has created a Mediterranean inspired restaurant with Spanish-influenced small plates. Celebrating local produce including Cornish seafood and dry aged cuts, cooked over charcoal, also expect Andalusian sourced produce to enhance seasonal simplicity. Ardor is open for lunch and dinner over two floors and 60 covers, across a combination of counter seating and individual tables &#8211; larger tables are upstairs, plus cosy ‘twos’ in the window, bistro-style, downstairs is the chef’s counter, with uninterrupted viewing of the chefs stoking the fires of the rotisserie and Josper grill. <p>July sees the re-opening of the <a href="https://pierhousehotel.com/">Pier House</a> at Charlestown, after a transformational refurbishment. The sea-facing bar, complete with sun trap outdoor seating area, makes it the best place to relax and soak up the views. Enjoy a drink and a bite to eat from the menu, which champions fresh local produce, and stay the night in one of the pub’s stylish, newly refurbished bedrooms (above), and again, look out for our review coming soon. </p>

<p>Recently a finalist on MasterChef: The Professionals, Charlie Walters is now bringing his culinary artistry and passion to open &#8216;<a href="https://www.thegatecornwall.com/charlie-walters">Charlie Walters at The Gate</a>,&#8217; a new restaurant concept opening at The Gate, near Talland Bay, on Cornwall&#8217;s south coast from 15 July.</p>



<p>Fans of Newquay&#8217;s HERD (um, everyone!) will be pleased to hear that HERD’s new foodie pop-up is set to open from next Monday at Shoreside in Carlyon Bay – it’s the go-to beach venue by the sea on the south coast for delicious local food, live music, water sports and wellness activities. HERD at Shoreside will be open from 12-9pm, 7days per week from Mon 8 July.</p>



<p>For relaxed lunches and easy summertime afternoons on the sea wall head to Zacry’s, in partnership with Cloudy Bay –&nbsp;until 6 September. For the first time since opening, Watergate Bay guests, locals and beachgoers are invited into Zacry’s by day – with lunch served&nbsp;between 12 and 2.30pm, and an oyster bar designed for laidback afternoons shucking on the shoreline,&nbsp;from 2.30pm to 5pm.</p>



<p>In Newquay, where Bush Pepper once was comes handmade pasta and neighbourhood Italian restaurant, Little Ears, and in Hayle, where Lula once stood now comes Gilbert&#8217;s beach bar and kitchen.</p>

<p>Congrats to Ugly Butterfly&#8217;s head sommelier, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sommelier_stephanie_louise/">Steph Benham</a>, for her recent inclusion in Harpers Wine and Spirit Top 50 Sommeliers, coming in at no.16 &#8211; the only Cornish-based sommelier on the list. </p>

<p>Speaking of Ugly Butterfly, congrats are also due to boss Adam Handling of the Adam Handling Restaurant Group, who won <strong>Restaurateur of the Year – Independent</strong> at the 2024 <a href="https://cateys.com/2024/en/page/winners-2024">Cateys</a> announced on 2 July (they are billed as the Oscars of the catering and hospitality world).</p>

<p>Meanwhile, regional Muddy Award winners Carbis Bay Hotel, Plonk&#8217;d (Bar, Wadebridge), Beautique (Beauty Salon, Newquay), Love of Lemons Vintage (Women&#8217;s Fashion, Nansledan) and Oceanflow Yoga (Newquay) have all been selected as <a href="https://muddystilettos.co.uk/muddy-awards/national-muddy-awards-finalists-2024/">finalists in the National Muddy Awards 2024</a>, flying the flag for Cornwall!</p>

<p>September 2024 is set to be a proper food festival month, with the announcement of two food festivals. Truro Food Festival will explode back onto the culinary scene in a colourful, flavoursome, and thoroughly Cornish reincarnation. Set to be held over five action-packed days, the gas will be lit on Wednesday 25&nbsp;September with the festival coming to a sizzling finish on Sunday 29th. </p>

<p>Penzance Food Festival meanwhile will be held from Fri 13 &#8211; Sun 15 September in Penlee Park. The event is run by three Cornish foodies; Harry James-Mills &amp; Barney Farnworth bring their experience of running the hugely successful Falmouth Food Festival, now into its third year and Oona Burch, a chef and baker, brings her local knowledge of Penzance and all it has to offer. They proudly strive to source all food traders, musicians, artists and even services, from within a 30km radius. Entry is FREE and the event will run for three days from 10am-8pm and promises to deliver a vibrant platform for chefs, food producers, musicians and artists to showcase their craft, giving visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the creative community of this historic coastal town.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-closings">CLOSINGS</h2>



<p>It&#8217;s a sad farewell to Potter&#8217;s in Bude, who&#8217;ve announced they&#8217;ll be closing their doors at the end of the summer. After four years Oly and Nikki have announced that it will be the end of Potters but they will be back with other projects.</p>



<p>It&#8217;s also goodbye to the sister-restaurant of Muddy Award winning Kernowine &#8211; the deli / restaurant Kernodine is closing the doors after just eight months, hit hard by rising costs. Fans of their small plates will be pleased to hear that these will be introduced to the wine bar at Kernowine next door over the next few weeks.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-celeb-news">CELEB NEWS</h2>



<p>We&#8217;d be here until August listing every last celeb that&#8217;s been on their hols round these parts but the teen rumour mill is whirling with the thought that Taylor Swift might have been alongside them on a beach and they didn&#8217;t even realise. A friend is quoted as saying Taylor&#8217;s been down here three times and no-one even noticed. Eyes on your neighbouring diners and beach goers!</p>
