<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-time-by-luxmuralis-truro-cathedral-nbsp-the-lowdown">Time by Luxmuralis Truro cathedral –&nbsp;THE LOWDOWN</h2>



<p>Dark January evenings definitely need brightening up and once again we’ve found just the thing — ‘TIME’ is an immersive installation in Truro Cathedral by Luxmuralis. Remember <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/arts-culture-things-to-do/space-by-luxmuralis-truro-cathedral-cornwall/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Space</a> from last year? The team is back with another bright spot in your week. For around 45-minutes forget your daily highs and lows and consider your (and the world&#8217;s) wider relationship with time, all in the comfort of the reassuring cathedral in the heart of the Duchy’s capital.</p>



<p>Designed to transform the way people experience sacred spaces and new ways to interact with art, the music is a unique soundtrack, soaring orchestral and contemporary music that provides a compelling soundtrack to the visuals. </p>

<p>Combining words, archive footage and mesmerising lights and projections, &#8220;Time&#8221; is an extraordinary exploration of humanity’s relationship with the concept of time, offering audiences an unforgettable journey through history, science, and imagination. Visitors journey through a series of captivating installations that portray humans as seen through different eras, exploring the fascinating theories of relativity, and the text of H.G. Wells’ “The Time Machine.”</p>



<p>Luxmuralis’ is the artistic collaboration between sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper, and “Time” is part of their wider portfolio of installations illuminating sacred spaces across the country.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>



<p>Lights and visuals dance across the architecture and illuminate all parts of the cathedral, from floor to ceiling. Even with the haunting soaring music it was a peaceful ambience in the cathedral; think more of a gazing in awe than the exuberance of a rave. Individual contemplation was the name of the game, mostly, with groups of people pausing to watch the installations that circle through their various phases.</p>

<p>Although it was popular, ticket slots are every 20 mins, where one group is admitted to ensure visitor flow, so it didn’t feel overly busy and there was time to stand back and take in what was happening.</p>



<p>If you went to see <em>Space</em> last year, it is at once similar and familiar, and yet also very different. There are still three main areas to pause and watch, but the content is both literally different (e.g. various different explorations of the concept of time) but also trying to evoke or get at something different with the positing of big questions and concepts. <em>Space </em>felt akin to standing on the edge of the planet and gazing out; somehow this felt more like looking inwards, although you may interpret it differently. That&#8217;s the beauty of such an installation: by being light on detail and explanation, you&#8217;re free to take from it what resonates.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p>Truro Cathedral is an absolutely beautiful neo-Gothic building, and it is lovely to see it illuminated in such a way with people queuing to see what is happening. There was a buzz of anticipation before the darkness brought on a reverent hush and then the lights and soaring music draw you in.</p>



<p>Children will love it, but may also have big questions to be answered; you may want to look up HG Wells so you are prepared if his work is not on your recent radar.</p>



<p>Bonus, you are right in the centre of Truro, so you can then nip out for a meal afterwards. Both&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pizzaexpress.com/truro-coinage-hall" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PizzaExpress</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.herdburger.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Herd</a>&nbsp;are nearby.</p>



<p><strong>Good for</strong>: Anyone with an even a passing interest in music or culture will find this fascinating. Fun for families, especially as there is plenty to look at and it’s a short-ish slot of around 45 mins so you’ll be out before anyone cries they’re bored. At £26 for a family it’s not cheap, but it’s not super spenny either.</p>



<p><strong>Not for</strong>: If you’re the kind of person that needs a “point” or purpose or learning from your cultural excursion, be aware this is more of a contemplative exercise than one bashing you with any message. </p>
