<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-cornwall-s-ancient-easter-customs">Cornwall’s Ancient Easter Customs</h2>

<p>These start on the Thursday before Easter, when, so legend has it, in Roche, the young people would walk to the Holy Well and throw pins into the water. This would determine whether &#8211; and who &#8211; they might marry that year.</p>



<p>In Penzance and Newlyn, did you know it is a Good Friday tradition to go on a special walk? In times past, it is said that practically everyone who lived in Penzance and Newlyn would walk to St Michael’s Mount or Lamorna Cove. </p>



<p>Also on Good Friday, it is the only day in the year when the ancient practice of&nbsp;<em>trigging</em>&nbsp;(picking cockles) is permitted along the&nbsp;Helford River.</p>



<p>The Cornish Ancient Sites Protection Network organises all sorts of events and they have in previous years revived the ancient Good Friday tradition of children and their families bringing their dolls, teddies and other toys to be ‘blessed’ or ‘baptised’ in the waters of the well near Men-an-Tol. Known as <em>Fenton Bebibell</em> (plus Dolly Dunking ceremony).</p>



<p>Over in St Ives, it is a Good Friday tradition for families to head to Consol&#8217;s Pond for model boat sailing and racing. </p>



<p>In Padstow, the annual Padstow Easter Egg Rolling is on Sat 4 April at midday on Duke Street.</p>



<p>It is also traditional to eat revel or saffron buns and Hevva Cake at Easter, along of course with hot cross buns &#8211; try your local bakery to secure the baked goods.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-good-friday-3-april-2026">GOOD FRIDAY, 3 APRIL 2026</h2>

<p>On&nbsp;Good Friday 3 April&nbsp;<strong>The Old Coastguard</strong> host <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DWWap6tDZme/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Odd Folk</a> who will be playing 2-5pm after the Good Friday Lamorma walk, in Mousehole.</p>



<p>In Penzance, enjoy a dip in the heated sea pool at the <strong>Jubilee Pool</strong>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-easter-saturday-4-april">EASTER SATURDAY, 4 APRIL</h2>

<p>Charlestown Harbour, the last open 18th-century Georgian harbour in the UK and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is now open to the public. The cobbled walkways of the grade II listed inner harbour are once again welcoming visitors without charge. Celebrate the <a href="https://charlestownharbour.com/events/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reopening of the Lock Gate Bridge</a> at Charlestown Harbour and mark a special moment for the harbour – which allows visitors to walk across the harbour once again. There&#8217;s a whole day planned on Sat 4 April including the Lemonaires playing sea shanties and morris dancing, as well as Q&amp;As.</p>



<p>Over at <a href="https://endellionfestivals.littleboxoffice.com/events/151387?" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Endellion Easter Festival</a>, join the &#8216;Come and Sing&#8217; which is Purcell.</p>



<p>In Liskeard, there’s a <a href="https://www.visitliskeard.co.uk/easter-events/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">day full of family fun</a> in Fore Street on Easter Saturday including an Easter bonnet parade, and dog show. </p>



<p>Near Lostwithiel at The Duchy of Cornwall Nursery, try the <a href="https://www.duchyofcornwallnursery.co.uk/events/easter-bird-trail" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Easter Bird Trail</a> &#8211; a fun family trail around the Nursery this Easter.</p>

<p>Newquay Town Council wishes to advise that the Easter Egg‑stravaganza, originally planned for Saturday 4 April, has been rescheduled to Sunday 5 April 2026 due to adverse weather forecasts. The event will still take place on the Killacourt from 10am to 4pm, and all activities remain in place. The fun simply moves to the following day!</p>



<p>The BIG Newquay Market, hosted by Cornwall Shop Small in collaboration with Newquay BID will also move to Sunday to be hosted alongside the event on the Killacourt from 10am, offering a wonderful range of stalls showcasing local food and artisan makers</p>



<p>Please note that the two free Easter town trails, the Easter Trail and the Golden Rocks Hunt, are unaffected by this change and will run as planned from Tuesday 7th April, until Saturday 18th April. Trail sheets are available from Newquay Library and Information Service (please note the library is closed on Sundays).</p>
