<p>At the recent national Muddy Awards, Cornwall had a well-deserved winner, for Best Casual Dining. The gong went to <a href="https://www.nativeburger.co.uk/">Native Burger</a> Bodmin, pictured, for their smashing burgers and banging vibes. Yes, in Bodmin! <p>After a break for 2024, one of Padstow&#8217;s favourite Christmas / winter foodie events returns. <a href="https://padstowchristmasfayre.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Padstow Christmas Fayre</a>&nbsp;has announced a new free-to-attend festive event for 2025, running from Thurs 4 &#8211; Sun 7 December. The event will showcase local produce, plus chefs Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth have both signed up to the chefs line-up, with more to be announced soon.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-new-restaurant-openings-in-cornwall">New restaurant openings in Cornwall </h2>

<p>In Flushing, Verdant have opened <a href="https://verdantbrewing.co/pages/our-venues" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Verdant Waterside</a> at the ferry landing place. Ex-Fifteen / Appletons chef Andy Appleton is in the kitchen, with Verdant&#8217;s beers on offer. Open from 10am for coffee every day, and lunch and dinner from Weds &#8211; Sunday; walk-ins only.</p>



<p>At the site where Onda used to be near the bridge in Wadebridge, ex-St Moritz chefs have opened <a href="https://duchylarder.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Duchy Larder</a>, open for lunch and dinner Weds &#8211; Sunday.</p>



<p>Over towards Bodmin at Nanstallon will be Paul Welburn&#8217;s new place, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ferncornwall/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fern</a>. Paul previously headed up several restaurants loved by Muddy Bucks Oxon and before that Rhodes W1, which held a Michelin star. More when more details are announced; excitingly the Camel Trail passes Nanstallon, making it accessible from both Wadebridge and Bodmin without a car.</p>



<p>Lastly, it’s not a restaurant, but it is a new opening from Salt Society Concept Store brand. In addition to their lovely shop in Fowey, they are now in St Ives as well. Find the new shop on Westcotts Quay off St Andrew’s St. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-sad-goodbyes">Sad goodbyes</h2>



<p>Time to say goodbye for the time being to <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/life/people/dan-cox-crocadon-st-mellion/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dan Cox</a>&#8216;s Crocadon Café &amp; Bakery, which will be closing the doors for the last time on Sun 24 August. The restaurant will still be open but the team are taking a break from serving coffees and pastries.</p>



<p>Over in Newquay, it is all change at <a href="https://www.instagram.com/little_ears_nqy/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Little Ears</a>, with original restauranteur Fred leaving for new ventures. The kitchen team headed by Rob still remain and the restaurant is still open. </p>



<p>Speaking of Newquay, also closing is Basket. Lottie has also announced that Muddy Award finalists women&#8217;s lifestyle shop &amp; Kin will be shutting at the end of the summer. </p>

<p>Sad news from The National Trust, who have announced that the least well-kept secret beach at Pedn Vounder near Porthcurno is closed. Access was always via the coast path and then a climb /scramble down the cliff but erosion has apparently caused this access to be unstable. No word on whether there are any plans to allow access in the future; there never was any formal access here like at Bedruthan, so any action seems unlikely. In the meantime, Porthcurno itself remains open and lifeguarded during the summer. </p>
