<p>Carbis Bay Hotel have announced the opening of <a href="https://www.restaurantmor.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MOR by Tom Sellers</a> in the beautiful restaurant space overlooking the sea and Carbis Bay itself, from summer 2026. The space itself will be created by Studio Shayne Brady. Organic forms forged from nature and floor-toceiling windows will blur the boundary between indoors and out, and the space will also incorporate a striking cocktail bar and an intimate 14-seat private dining room.</p>

<p>Mor, as you will know is Cornish for sea, sets the tone for Cornish ingredients, where an impressive raw bar and charcoal grill anchors a menu that celebrates the region’s finest produce: hand-dived scallops, day boat fish, ex-dairy beef<br>and seasonal vegetables grown specifically for MOR in the restaurant’s on-site kitchen garden.</p>



<p>Tom returns to Carbis Bay following his pop-up restaurant success back in 2019, when Story by Sea was a hit. He is the chef behind two-Michelin-star restaurant Story, in London, plus Story Cellar, Dovetale and Gwyn’s Bakery, making Mor at Carbis Bay his fifth site.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-michelin-news-for-cornwall">Michelin news for Cornwall</h2>



<p>Speaking of the Michelin stars, MOR will be occupying the space previously used by Ugly Butterfly at Carbis Bay. Adam Handling&#8217;s relocation to Newquay and the Headland Hotel saw him awarded with the group&#8217;s second star, and the fourth for Cornwall. Paul Ainsworth at No. 6, Outlaw&#8217;s Fish Kitchen and Outlaws New Road all retained their stars (although Outlaw&#8217;s New Road is to close at the end of March, when Outlaw opens his new bistro in the guest house at Port Isaac. Also rewarded in the listings for Cornwall were Counter Culture, with a new Bib Gourmand. <p>Founded in May 2022 in Falmouth by friends Mael, Grace and Jacob <a href="http://www.darkponycoffee.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dark Pony</a> roastery and coffee shop was built around one simple aim: championing exceptional coffee. From sourcing and roasting to packaging, distributing and serving, the team does it all in-house in Cornwall, proudly showcasing the work of some of the world’s best producers, and in February this year were the only Cornish coffee shop to be included in the ‘The Best Coffee Shops UK 2026’.</p>



<p>Staying on the Falmouth theme, if you hanker after something from the Verdant Seafood Bar, but live in London? The team are collaborating with the exciting culinary talent that is Rake at the Compton Arms, joining forces for two exclusive pop-up dining experiences that showcase the best of local ingredients with bold, inventive dishes. The team from Rake has been in Falmouth and on 28th February the collaboration moves to London for a two-session pop-up. </p>



<p>Just two entries for Cornwall in <a href="https://www.squaremeal.co.uk/restaurants/best/uk-top-100-restaurants_238" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Square Meals Top 100</a> listings for 2026. In at 30 was Argoe Newlyn, four places higher than Paul Ainsworth at No. 6, in at 34.</p>



<p>Cornwall&#8217;s no stranger to sad goodbyes, where closure announcements this month include the Golden Lion and Pityme Inn pubs in Port Isaac and St Minver near Rock. Muddy-Award winning bar Plonk&#8217;d have also announced they won&#8217;t be back with their beach-based foodie pop-up this summer. </p>

<p>Amongst the various recent line-up announcements are that CMAT will play the <em>Eden Sessions</em> on Weds 15 July, and if you were keen to catch Lily Allen&#8217;s tour but missed out on tickets, hurry and get yourself one for Boardies, where she is to headline <a href="https://boardmasters.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Boardmasters</em></a> Saturday night lineup, playing West End Girl in full.</p>



<p>They join Skunk Anansie, Chevy Metal and The Alive announced for <em>The Great Estate Festival</em> and Groove Armada DJ Set, Scissor Sisters and Kool &amp; The Gang at <em>Rock Oyster Festival</em>.</p>

<p>A new permanent play experience is coming to the Eden Project this spring. The Giant Marble Runs – wooden marble runs weaving through throughout the gardens – will open on 28 March 2026, perfectly timed for visitors to the gardens over the Easter holidays.</p>



<p>The new installation, featuring over 100 metres of interactive track spread across eight unique runs, invites visitors of all ages to get out and play in nature, following beautifully carved wooden marbles as they twist, turn and tumble on a journey through Eden’s sprawling gardens.</p>



<p>Over at Wheal Jane, near Truro, tin has been smelted, using tin from Cornwall&#8217;s very last tin mine. In 2014 Cornwall Gold regenerated Tolgus Mill to the point where it could produce tin for the first time in decades.  Using ore donated from Wheal Jane, their 19th century stamps and barrel pulverisor crushed it to release tin from the rock and their shaking tables and round frame separate the materials to produce a tin rich concentrate. On 23 Feb, they used this to produce about 1 kilo of Cornish tin which will all be used to create their Tolgus jewellery.</p>
