<p>A major new sculpture of a leaping fox has been unveiled at The Lost Gardens of Heligan to celebrate the estate’s abundant wildlife. <em>Lowarnes</em>&nbsp;– which is Cornish for “vixen” – is a 6m-tall sculpture made from vivid russet rhododendron wood grown at Heligan. </p>



<p>She has been created by the Cornish brother and sister artist team of Sue and Pete Hill alongside Hal Silvester. Sue and Pete were also behind the gardens’ beloved Mud Maid, Giant’s Head and Grey Lady sculptures. Hal, who worked on the Grey Lady with the Hills, was the lead designer of The Man Engine, an 11.5m-tall puppet of a Cornish miner.</p>



<p>The beautiful wood used to represent the fur of&nbsp;<em>Lowarnes</em>&nbsp;was harvested from a 150-year-old ‘Cornish Red’ rhododendron which fell during Storm Darragh in December 2024. Around 600 pieces were hand-split by Heligan staff, creating the wonderfully sinuous texture and curves used to represent the animal’s fur.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://pednolva.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pedn Olva</a> in St Ives is now back open after an extensive refurb. The St Austell Brewery pub now features reconfigured layouts, expansive new terraces and a reimagined interior design inspired by its mining roots and coastal surroundings. A striking granite feature rises from the new lobby, complemented by a sculptural staircase and expansive glazing that frames uninterrupted views across the bay. &nbsp;The refurb also features a new expansive&nbsp;rooftop&nbsp;terrace area for guests to wine and dine al fresco.</p>

<p>Luxmuralis is set to return to Truro Cathedral in 2026 with a new immersive light and sound show. After Space by Luxmuralis in January 2025, the cathedral is excited to bring “Time” from Mon 12 – Sat 17 January.</p>



<p>&#8220;Time&#8221; promises to be an extraordinary exploration of humanity&#8217;s relationship with the concept of time, offering audiences an unforgettable journey through history, science, and imagination.</p>



<p>Visitors will journey through a series of captivating installations that portray humans as seen through different eras, exploring the fascinating theories of relativity, and the text of H.G. Wells&#8217; &#8220;The Time Machine.&#8221;</p>

<p>The Cornish Bed Co have a new frame. Called <a href="https://cornishbeds.co.uk/products/porthilly">Porthilly</a> and inspired by the rugged Cornish coast, it blends authentic Victorian craftsmanship with a comfortable, upholstered headboard, handmade by their sister-company, Naturalmat. Hand-cast at their Cornwall foundry using their signature gravity-poured techniques and authentic Victorian knuckle joint fixings, the Porthilly bears the hallmarks of heritage craftsmanship that only strengthens with the years. The upholstered headboard is filled with organic wool and recycled denim for a soft support on your head, shoulders and back, as you rest in bed. The Porthilly can be manufactured as a bedstead, bed surround, headboard, four-poster bed or as a bedstead with no foot end, and the headboard in fabric and colour of your choosing.</p>

<p>Penzance Tapas Trail ( or Tro Gwithys Kernewek &#8211; which translates from Cornish as ‘Cornish Taste Trail)<strong>&nbsp;</strong>has been launched &#8211; a new five-day celebration of food and drink showcasing some of the town’s best-loved restaurants and producers. From&nbsp;<strong>Weds</strong> <strong>17 to Sun 21 September</strong>, locals and visitors alike are invited to explore Penzance in a new way &#8211; through bite-sized dishes, each priced at&nbsp;<strong>£5 or less</strong>. Head to participating venues, which include The Alverne, The Cornish Hen, The Front Room, Pocket Full of Stones, Chapel House, Jubilee Pool, Whits and Bay, Redwing Gallery, Flatties, Zennor Wild, Loafs, Fraser’s Fish &amp; Chips, Thai Moon, Pirates Rest, Archie Browns, Lavenders, Hellys Bistro, RideOn, and Boatshed. With dishes served in miniature, visitors can enjoy a variety of flavours while discovering hidden gems across the town. The Tapas Trail is a Penzance’s creative spirit and culinary talent and coincides with the second&nbsp;<a href="https://www.penzancefoodfestival.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Penzance Food Festival</a>&nbsp;in Penlee Park, from Fri 19- Sun 21&nbsp;September.</p>



<p>Like Oysters? Ahead of the <a href="https://falmouthoysterfestival.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Falmouth&nbsp;Oyster&nbsp;Festival</a>&nbsp;next month (<strong>Thurs 9- Sun 12 October</strong>) the <a href="https://www.thegoodfoodguide.co.uk/where-to-eat/oysters" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Good Food Guide</a> has released a guide to the best places to eat oysters in the UK, featuring Fowey&#8217;s North Street Kitchen. </p>

<p>Jude Kereama will be taking diners down memory lane with a limited edition ‘Nostalgia’ menu, reimagining some of the restaurant’s classic dishes from the last 20 years, and also a&nbsp;selection of his celebrated creations from his appearances on BBC’s&nbsp;<em>Great British Menu</em>. Look out for these at <em>Kota</em>&nbsp;in Porthleven throughout October and November .</p>

<p>Meanwhile, singer Becky Hill has married Charlie Gardner. The pair held their service in the sunshine at Bream Cove, Falmouth at Muddy Award winning <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/travel/uk/hotels-inns/hotel-meudon-falmouth-cornwall-review/">Hotel Meudon</a>.</p>



<p>Filming has started again in Looe and Saltash for the next season of <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/film-tv/where-is-beyond-paradise-filmed/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Beyond Paradise</a> &#8211; as regular viewers will know, the BBC&#8217;s Beyond Paradise is set in ‘Shipton Abbott’, a fictional village in Devon but many of the Beyond Paradise filming locations are in Cornwall.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, over on Channel 4, Bake Off series 16 is underway, featuring Cornish contestant, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/jesssssikka/?hl=en">Jessika</a>. Surviving Cake, Biscuit and Bread week so far, Jessika is the show&#8217;s first ever drag king and credits her love of baking to &#8220;eating corner-shop cakes with her sister after dance classes&#8221; during her childhood in Cornwall.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-awards">AWARDS</h2>



<p>Firebrand Brewing Co&#8217;s non-alcoholic hazy pale, Shorebreak, has just won Double Gold at the International Non-Alcoholic Drinks Competition. This follows hot on the heels of being named Britain’s Best Non-Alcoholic Pale Ale at the World Beer Awards. Also flying the flag for Cornish breweries is Sharp’s, who received a major number of medals at at both the World Beer Awards and the International Beer Challenge. It was an impressive five Bronze Ale awards for Chalky’s Bite, Doom Bar and Atlantic with an additional Bronze Lager category award for Offshore, Sharp’s&nbsp;<em>pale straw beer with a herbal lemon aroma</em>,&nbsp;and another Bronze for Doom Bar Zero in the No or Low Alcohol section.</p>



<p>Truro&#8217;s <strong>Cornwall&nbsp;Museum and Art Gallery</strong> has been shortlisted for a Museums Change Lives Award 2025, a national accolade recognising museums that are transforming lives and strengthening communities across the UK.</p>
