Andrew Tuck, formerly the acclaimed head chef at the St Kew Inn, is taking the helm as Head Chef of the kitchen at Flushing’s <a href="https://harbourhouseflushing.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harbour House</a> pub from the beginning of February. He has recently featured on Rick Stein’s Cornwall Series and The Great British Menu, and has graced the stages of Cornwall’s popular food festivals. Outgoing chef, Jeffrey Robinson, meanwhile heads back to his hometown of St Ives where he is setting up a cookery school.

After three years serving up delicious, simple seafood at her restaurant on the sea wall at Watergate Bay, it was <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/new-openings-cafes-delis-wine-bars-cornwall/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">goodbye from Emily Scott</a> as she headed off to follow new dreams including in the Caymens &#8211; but she&#8217;s also back in Cornwall at Padstow Christmas Festival (7-10 Dec). And taking over the site? <a href="https://www.watergatebay.co.uk/food-drink/zacrys-on-the-sea-wall/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zacry’s on the sea wall</a> will showcase beautiful food that reflects its ethos of ‘elegant simplicity’ shaped by provenance, place and perspective, and the elemental energy of its setting. The new dining experience opened on Friday 1 December and we will bring you our review very soon!

It&#8217;s congratulations to Charlie Walters, head chef of Looe&#8217;s The Sardine Factory. He is one of the four finalists on MasterChef: The Professionals 2023, series 16. The first of the final episodes airs tonight, 6 Dec &#8211; good luck Charlie!

There&#8217;s three new entries for <a href="https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/cornwall/restaurants">Cornwall in the Michelin Guide</a> &#8211; Restaurant Meudon, Barnaby&#8217;s, Padstow, and Fallowfields at Housel Bay Hotel, and Paul Ainsworth No 6 Padstow has been named number 2 on the best restaurants in the UK list, according to trip adviser. It&#8217;s also a big congrats to <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/pubs-inns/review-the-rising-sun-truro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Rising Sun in Truro</a>, who&#8217;ve been named in the 2024 Top 50 Gastropubs &#8211; full list coming soon, but last year also included The Mariner&#8217;s in Rock, and the St Kew Inn.

Cornish crab shack, Lula, is opening a second site next year. The <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/latest-news-cornwall-june-2023/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">original Lula site at Hayle&#8217;s North Quay closed its doors earlier this year</a> followed by a new collaboration with Gwithian’s The Rockpool bar, which will continue, and will now be followed by the opening of another venue in 2024.



<a href="https://www.trurofarmers.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Truro Farmers Market</a>&nbsp;celebrates its 25th&nbsp;anniversary in 2024, and has announced the release of a very special recipe book to celebrate the milestone. The limited edition hardback is available to&nbsp;<a href="https://cornish-gifts.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">pre-order online</a>&nbsp;alongside a seasonal food calendar, and both will be for sale throughout The BIG Christmas Market on Lemon Quay.



And lucky Mount Hawke &#8211; Ben Quinn and Canteen Cornwall are opening a new space.

The Cornwall Tourism Awards were announced at the end of November &#8211; congratulations to <a href="https://www.uglybutterfly.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ugly Butterfly</a>&nbsp;by Adam Handling (above), Carbis Bay and <a href="https://www.watergatebay.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Watergate Bay Hotel</a> who took Gold and Silver in the ethical, responsible and sustainable award, <a href="https://theparkcornwall.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Park Cornwall</a>, Mawgan Porth (silver, Holiday Park of the year), <a href="https://www.stmichaelsresort.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Michaels Resort</a>, Falmouth (gold, large hotel of the year), <a href="http://www.heligan.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Lost Gardens of Heligan</a>, St Austell (silver, large visitor attraction of the year). Ugly Butterfly also won gold in restaurant of the year, with <a href="https://www.tallandbayhotel.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Talland Bay Hotel</a>, Looe taking silver.

<a href="https://www.thepighotel.com/at-harlyn-bay/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">THE PIG-at Harlyn Bay</a>, Padstow (above) won gold in small hotel of the year, with Talland Bay awarded silver, the <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20221212071108/https:/www.heligan.com/events/heligan-night-garden-a-magical-winter-experience" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heligan Night Garden</a> 2022 won gold for event of the year, as well as Heligan itself awarded silver for wedding venue of the year, and wildlife-friendly tourist award.



Cornish holiday businesses were also represented at the recent British Travel&nbsp;Awards where Away Resorts (<a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/retallack-resort-spa/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Retallack</a> and <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/st-ives-bay-beach-resort-hayle-cornwall/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Ives Bay</a>) awarded Silver in the &#8216;UK Parks &amp; Lodges&#8217; category, while female-led Cornish Gems secured bronze in the ‘Best Company for UK Holiday Home Rentals’&nbsp;category.

Meanwhile, The Headland in Newquay has been named the best in the south west for the second consecutive year, as part of the AA Best UK Spa awards, hot on the heels of being named as  Independent Hotel of the Year in October. St Michaels Resort in Falmouth and The Scarlet Hotel, Mawgan Porth were also recognised in the AA Best UK Spa awards.

Up the coast a little, Padstow Town House was awarded fifth place in the UK&#8217;s Top Boutique Hotels.

Quick Panda Productions, the Cornish production company behind The Great Estate Festival, Little Orchard, and the Cathedral Masquerade, will bring a brand-new music and well-being festival to Cornwall in 2024 with UK electronic group Morcheeba headlining.



Paradhis Festival, pronounced ‘para-dees’ and named after the Cornish word for ‘paradise’, will take place at the historic Boconnoc Estate in South East Cornwall from Friday 5th until Sunday 7th July 2024. The festival is a unique blend of mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and other wellness activities, complemented by an eclectic mix of music to create an experience never before seen in Cornwall.
