From Muddy Awards finalist (and Michelin-starred restaurateur) Adam Handling comes a new venture, opening near Newquay on 4 June. We were disappointed when Muddy Award winning pub, The Foxes Revenge, <a href="https://cornwall.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/latest-foodie-news-restaurants-openings-cornwall/">closed it&#8217;s doors earlier this year</a>, so we were delighted with the news that the team from Ugly Butterfly will be re-opening the site as their new sustainable gastro-pub, <a href="http://www.tartanfoxpub.co.uk">The Tartan Fox</a>. 



Our colleagues in Berkshire love Adam&#8217;s original pub, the award-winning The Loch &amp; the Tyne in Old Windsor, and The Tartan Fox will build on this &#8211; embodying Adam&#8217;s visionary approach to zero-waste, modern British food, underpinned by the philosophy of &#8216;Sustainable, local luxury&#8217;. Much like Ugly Butterfly, all produce used at the pub will be locally sourced from in and around Cornwall and Adam plans to cultivate homegrown ingredients from the pub’s vast garden space in the next growing season, to include vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

<a href="http://www.rosanewquay.co.uk/">ROSA</a>,&nbsp;a new neighbourhood bar, restaurant, and mini-golf concept has launched on the North Coast. From the acclaimed team behind Newquay’s popular burger restaurant, HERD (also Best Casual Dining finalist in this year&#8217;s Muddy Awards Cornwall), Rosa has taken over the former Gilmore’s site on Tower Road. Look out for our review soon. ROSA is open 7 days per week from 9am – 11pm and Mini-Golf is available&nbsp;from 9am until sunset –&nbsp;There’s no need to book, just pop-up to the Caddyshack to grab some clubs and go explore (£10 for adults, and £7 for children).



Other new openings include <a href="https://idlerocks.com/restaurant/">The Reef Knot Restaurant</a> at The Idle Rocks in St Mawes, led by Executive Head Chef Stuart Shaw, serves the best of Cornish sea-to-table cuisine. Sustainably caught fish, landed daily at the quay at St Mawes, and served alongside the finest local seasonal produce, are at the heart of the menus. 



Over at Una St Ives, chill out by the lido at <a href="https://unastives.co.uk/spa-leisure/cargo/">CARGO</a>, offering a street-food-inspired menu, with dishes perfectly cooked over open flame, this stunning, al-fresco eatery boasts cabanas with retractable roofs and side screens for less balmy days. After putting in a few lengths in the Lido, or maybe just chilling poolside, relax and refuel with dishes from a mouth-watering menu including flame-cooked flank steak, fish of the day skewers, slow-cooked chicken wings finished on the barbecue, crispy panko coated buffalo cauliflower and so many more.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hospitality-news">Hospitality news</h2>



Speaking of <a href="https://unastives.co.uk/stay/">Una St Ives</a>, they have just announced the opening of five high-end villas with private hot tubs. The new accommodation joins the collection of 29 lodges, with a further 22 villas planned by the end of the year.

Imagined by the multi-award-winning Dyer Architects and fashioned with locally sourced materials, the villas’ textured palette of stone, timber and glass feels classically Cornish, with a contemporary twist. The spacious, Scandi-influenced interiors utilise traditional materials in an ultra-modern way. Each villa’s design and positioning have been planned to embrace the area’s world-famous artists’ light. The open plan living on the first floor, encompassing a high-spec kitchen, dining and living area, plus a private terrace with outside dining, is made for socialising. With access to the outdoors on both levels of the villas, spacious bedrooms are found on the ground floor, opening to the distinctly Cornish landscaped grounds, hot tub, and plentiful views.&nbsp;



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-amp-sadly-more-closures">&amp; sadly more closures</h2>



It&#8217;s goodbye to Muddy Award 2023 finalists Got Crabs for their St Merryn Secret Sandwich shop. They are closing the shop but not the prep kitchen, so those in Newquay and Padstow can still get their fresh seafood sandwiches delivered. It&#8217;s also goodbye to Tintagel Brewery Bar &amp; Bistro, who&#8217;ve also this week closed their doors.



We are also hearing that <a href="https://www.padstowchristmasfestival.co.uk/">Padstow Christmas Festival</a> has been cancelled for 2024. Sad news for the chefs and local businesses, plus the fans that head annually to the north coast harbour to see a line-up of celebrity chefs, demos galore and a large Christmas market full of artisanal producers and makers.

Prince William, or the Duke of Cornwall, spent two days in Cornwall last week, visiting Nansledan, Newquay and then heading over to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C6wrK5CtCDo/">Fistral Beach</a>, above, where he played volleyball, met Holywell Bay and Newquay Surf Life Saving Clubs. On Friday, making the most of the good weather, he headed over to the Isles of Scilly.

Of possibly niche interest, but of great interest to those businesses waiting to see whether they made the cut &#8211; HM The King and HM The Queen granted their first Royal Warrants of Appointment of the new reign this week. The (late) Queen had some 800 companies on her list, but the new King&#8217;s version is somewhat slimmed down, and Camilla&#8217;s is even shorter. Appearing on both lists? <a href="https://www.camelvalley.com/">Camel Valley</a>, Cornwall, Purveyor of English Sparkling Wines (pictured above) near Bodmin.



Also on the King&#8217;s list &#8211; <a href="https://flyingfishseafoods.co.uk/">Flying Fish Seafoods Co. Ltd</a>, Cornwall Supplier of Fresh Cornish Seafoods, who previously held a Royal Warrant for the Prince of Wales.
