<p>Whether you&#8217;re Team Black, Team Green or simply looking for an excuse to explore some of Cornwall&#8217;s most spectacular scenery, here&#8217;s how to spend a dragon-worthy weekend visiting the real-life locations that brought Westeros to life.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-house-of-the-dragon-sky-atlantic-now"><em>House of the Dragon</em>, Sky Atlantic/NOW</h2>



<p>As if Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint and Rhys Ifans weren’t reason enough to tune in, James Norton is joining the <em><strong>House of the Dragon</strong></em> cast this season. Set 200 years before the events of <em>Game of Thrones</em>, details of what’s to come are being kept firmly under lock and key, but if previous seasons are anything to go by, expect shifting alliances, brutal betrayals, epic battles and plenty of dragon-fuelled drama. Oh, and probably a few steamy scenes thrown in for good measure.</p>



<p>If the stunning scenery has you wondering where it was all filmed, you don&#8217;t have to travel to the Seven Kingdoms. Some of the series&#8217; most memorable locations are right here in Cornwall.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-driftmark-st-michael-s-mount">Driftmark: St Michael&#8217;s Mount</h2>



<p>Few places in Cornwall look more like Westeros than <strong>St Michael&#8217;s Mount</strong>. The tidal island doubled as High Tide, the seat of House Velaryon, and is instantly recognisable from Laena Velaryon&#8217;s funeral and the explosive family confrontation that follows.</p>



<p>The castle at St Michael’s Mount is perched on a tidal island, 500m off the coast of Marazion. Follow in the footsteps of giants across the causeway that emerges from the sea-bed as the tide drops, unravel the history of the St Aubyn family, who have lived here since the 17th century, wander the centuries old corridors and explore the sub-tropical gardens (some of which are tended by abseiling gardeners) – but be quick, you’ll need to get back before the tide rises again, or it’s a long swim! Only kidding, you can book a seat on a boat. National Trust members go free – book online – and <a href="https://www.stmichaelsmount.co.uk/plan-your-visit/locals-pass" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Local’s Pass</a> for residents from local parishes are also available).</p>



<p>Even without CGI dragons circling overhead, it feels every bit as magical.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-stepstones-kynance-cove">Stepstones: Kynance Cove</h2>



<p>Next, head to <strong>Kynance Cove</strong>, one of Cornwall&#8217;s most photographed beaches. With its white sand, emerald water and dramatic serpentine rocks, it&#8217;s easy to see why producers transformed it into the Stepstones, where Daemon Targaryen fought the Crabfeeder.</p>



<p>Where Land’s End is the most westerly point of the UK, The Lizard marks the most southerly and it’s here that the path turns pretty sharply and heads back up north-east. Look out over the sea from this stretch of coastline and there’s nothing between Cornwall and America. Might explain why the first wireless signals were sent from here (at Poldhu) by Marconi in 1901.</p>



<p>Visit the beach at low tide to explore the caves and rock formations, but be prepared for a steep walk down. Parking is in the National Trust carpark (free for members).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-claiming-vhagar-holywall-bay">Claiming Vhagar: Holywall Bay</h2>

<p><strong>Holywell Bay</strong> near Newquay starred in several unforgettable scenes, including Daemon&#8217;s campaign in the Stepstones and the pivotal sequence where Prince Aemond claims the mighty dragon Vhagar.</p>



<p>The sweeping dunes and iconic twin Gull Rocks make this one of Cornwall&#8217;s most cinematic beaches, whether or not you&#8217;ve watched the series. Park in the National Trust car park (members free).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dragon-detour-game-of-cones-fowey">Dragon detour: <em>Game of Cones</em>, Fowey</h2>

<p>On your way to or from Cornwall&#8217;s filming locations, stop in Fowey at <a href="https://www.instagram.com/game_of_cones_fowey/?hl=en-gb" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Game of Cones</a>, the <em>Game of Thrones</em>-inspired ice cream parlour that even Emilia Clarke couldn&#8217;t resist. You can take your dragon waffles across the road to Caffa Mill, pictured above, to eat them with a view of Daphne du Maurier&#8217;s house across the river. Park at Caffa Mill car park.</p>
