<p><em>Rose of Nevada</em> is a new film by Mark Jenkin (previous credits include Bait and Enys Men), and produced by Denzil Monk. Starring George MacKay, Callum Turner, Francis Magee, Edward Rowe, Rosalind Eleazar and Mary Woodvine, the Cornish thriller is in cinemas from 24 April 2026. </p>

<p>When a fishing boat, the Rose of Nevada, lost with all hands 30 years ago, mysteriously reappears in the old harbour of a forgotten Cornish village, for those who remember, it’s surely a sign. The boat must go out to sea again and maybe then the luck of the devastated village will turn. Young father Nick and enigmatic newcomer Liam join captain Murgey, and they head to sea. But when they return, satisfied with their haul, something is amiss – they’ve slipped back in time, and the villagers greet them as if they are the original crew.</p>

<p>The film was mostly shot on 16mm using a clockwork Bolex camera on location in Cornwall, with the landscapes and seascapes making Cornwall a front and centre character, much like Jenkin&#8217;s previous work.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-newlyn-west-cornwall">Newlyn (West Cornwall)</h2>

<p>Jenkin&#8217;s home town of Newlyn was also the scene of the Cornish premier at Newlyn Film House. The working harbour and timeless fishing town atmosphere offered an authentic, lived-in setting for Cornwall as a maritime character.</p>



<p>See the boats come and go, as well as the fish market in full swing. Head to Argoe for lunch or dinner, Lovetts for a glass of wine, Jelbert&#8217;s for an ice-cream and the Newlyn Art Gallery for a spot of culture.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hayle-north-coast">Hayle (north coast)</h2>

<p>Inner harbour shots in the <em>Rose of Nevada</em> were filmed in Hayle.</p>



<p>The harbour area has been gently reinvented in recent years, so you’ll find a handful of laid-back cafés and spots to eat and drink with estuary views, and it is also worth wandering the towans (the dunes), which feel properly wild in places.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-mullion-lizard-peninsula"><strong>Mullion (Lizard Peninsula)</strong></h2>

<p>Mullion allowed Jenkin to capture the raw, elemental beauty of Cornwall’s south coast, with key fishing scenes shot here on the harbour wall.</p>



<p>Mullion is on the Atlantic side of the Lizard, with very little near save the south west coast path passing through, and gorgeous wild coast line and plenty of beaches. At nearby Poldhu Cove, Guglielmo Marconi set up one of his most important wireless stations in the early 1900s, from where the first transatlantic radio signal was sent in 1901. Today the <a href="https://marconi-centre-poldhu.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marconi Centre</a> sits overlooking the same dramatic coastline, telling the story of those pioneering experiments that changed the world.</p>
